Why do Newborns 'need' Editing?

Every photographer is different- some photographers like to photograph babies very 'naturally', while others like to edit a little, and others edit heavily. I like to think that I edit a little; enough to find the little baby beneath the blemishes that can come with being born.
Any one can take a photo of you with a pimple- anyone with basic skills can take that pimple out, and give you a third eye if you really want one! I like to edit my babies, and most people, with the mantra 'to take away non permanent features, and enhance individuality'. What does this mean? I believe in removing non-permanent items such as scratches, pimples, bruises, grazes and cuts (extremely useful with children's photography!)- I do not change eye colour, remove scars, enlarged body features or 'slim down' people, unless I am directly asked to by the client.
If you do have non-permanent features like bruises that appear just before your session, simply contact your photographer; most of the time these can be removed, but there are some situations than can become tricky to remedy completely. Communicating about this can help you find a suitable outcome, whether that be rescheduling, apply some concealer/foundation, or going ahead as planned.
Editing can be a part of the vision that a photographer has in their eye- I can see beyond those red scratches baby accidentally put on himself, or the eczema that just won't go away. If you have special requests regarding your images- if you would like a feature 'adjusted', left alone, or removed, simply ask. We all have different preferences to our own image, and you deserve to have the images you love and feel comfortable about hanging on your wall.
Have a lovely week ~Kiki
